Why I Kept Comparing These Two Different Printers

The Kingjet DTF printer and the 9060 UV printer are a different species. DTF transfers designs to film and then heat-presses them onto fabric. UV printers cure ink directly onto rigid or textured products like phone cases, wood, acrylic, and metal. A desktop UV DTF printer shrinks that capability down to a machine that can sit near a workbench instead of requiring a dedicated production area.

The surprising part: I assumed 'same specifications' across UV DTF vendors meant identical results. Didn't verify. Turned out each manufacturer interprets speed, resolution, and 'desktop' differently. The Kingjet DTF printer we demoed needed more room than expected, and the 9060 UV printer's footprint was serious. Operator skill matters more than the brand. A competent operator can get more useful output from a decent desktop UV DTF printer than a beginner can get from a flashy 9060 UV. The Kingjet DTF printer has a following for a reason, but it doesn't automatically make someone a DTF expert.

I've seen internal merch teams buy a specialist printer and then realize nobody wants to own the maintenance. The printer wasn't bad. The match was wrong.

What I'd Buy, and What I'd Leave Alone

There's no universal winner. Here's how I think about it now:

  • Stick with Ricoh laser printers and Ricoh MFP printers if your core jobs are documents, reports, and general office printing. That's their purpose, and the service ecosystem makes sense.
  • Look at a Kingjet DTF printer if you're producing T-shirts and fabric goods at volume and have an operator who can run the workflow.
  • Consider a 9060 UV printer if you have a real print shop, solid demand for hard-surface items, and space for a production unit.
  • Explore a desktop UV DTF printer only if you have smaller batch sizes, limited space, and someone who treats the machine like production equipment, not an office printer.

Final Advice

For our company, the honest answer was to stay with Ricoh MFP printers for daily work and outsource specialty jobs until the volume justifies a dedicated machine. The 9060 UV and Kingjet DTF options aren't bad. They're just not right for every office.

One thing to verify before you buy: get real references, ask about service lead times, and make sure the vendor can invoice properly. I learned that lesson when a supplier couldn't produce a legitimate invoice and accounting rejected a $1,400 expense. That mistake taught me to ask about operations, not just specifications.

Based on publicly listed prices I checked in January 2025, online printers charge roughly $20 to $35 for 500 basic business cards and $80 to $150 for 1,000 flyers. Those numbers are a useful sanity check when in-house printing starts feeling expensive. But they don't capture the value of a same-day custom order.

There's no best printer in every category. There's only the best fit for the work you actually do.
